CID2 Goh Wee Han (Point of View)

Zaanse Schans in Netherlands is well preserved with windmills and houses. Nowadays, Zaanse Schans is one of the popular tourist attractions in the Netherlands. I agree with this decision. From the government's point of view, they would see this area as a really attractive place for tourists to visit. This would help increase their tourist revenue and help the country grow with extra findings from tourists. Another point of view we can see from is the people who live there, or have good memories with. These people would be extremely saddened if the place got taken down, as they would not bear to part with that place if you have grown many fond memories with it. I can also
share my point from the Dutch's point of view. These people would probably feel that this is an iconic place in their country, and what builds their country's image and reputation. If this is taken down, they would feel that one thing that represents their country would be gone, and they would have to rely on a smaller number of places to showcase their country.

CID 2 one child policy 3-2-1

3 lessons that I have learnt
1)I have learnt that the one child policy is only a short term solution. In the long run, the population would decrease a lot and that would result in several consequences
2)One child policy is implemented so as to stop rapid population which would help the economy.
3)Posters were put up to support and oppose the one child policy.

2 perception I have gained
1)I feel that the one child policy is a very severe policy but the two child policy is just right as it basically replaces both the father and the mother
2)I think that posters are very useful to send out a message

1)Are there other countries with one or two child policies in place?

CID Chingay assignment

One of the main reasons why Chingay is started is to celebrate the birthday of the Chinese deities or the procession of the goddess of mercy during the Chinese New Year festivities. However, I doubt that this is the main purpose of still holding Chingay nowadays annually. In my opinion, the purpose of Chingay 2016 is to bring people of different races religion and creed at one and to celebrate the auspicious dates of Chinese New Year. Singapore is a country where everyone of race and religion should be able to come together without discrimination. Thus, the performances of Chingay emphasises on this belief by performing items of different culture and shows that the performers of one race or religion can work together perfectly fine with another performer to put up such a wonderful performance.

I think the first Chingay is mostly to celebrate the Chinese and the goddess of mercy. However, this changed to celebrate all the races and religion, from Chinese to Malays to Indians, from Buddhism to Christianity. I think this change happened as they want to bond Singaporeans more. The more bonded Singaporeans are, the more cooperative we would be, which would result in a more sound place for everyone to stay in.

I think the organisers have successfully fulfilled the purpose. The organisers put in different performers from different culture. These includes the dragon dance from the Chinese culture, Malay and Indian dances. There are also several performance that has many cultures performing. With this cooperation among people of different races and religion, people can learn that and apply the skill in real life.

CID2 group 2 goh wee han poverty

Poverty and happiness. Are these two words related? Or does wealth make someone happier compared to a poor person. Well to me, this is not exactly true. To me, I see that wealthy people have a higher expectation, and take things for granted. Wealthier people are usually used to having good food, living in a good environment et cetera. Thus, when asked to live in a rental flat, they would complain about the living conditions and would be unwilling to change their previous lifestyle. However, if you ask someone living in a slum in Brazil to stay in a rental flat, he would definitely take it as it would marginally improve his living conditions. After all this, I still hope that everyone would be able to enjoy happiness, regardless of their wealth.

I think that Singapore, although being a relatively prosperous country, is not a very happy country. We have many people who complain about their working hours as they are stress. Although this is what contributes towards the prosper, it also makes the workers more stressed and make them not liking to enjoy living in Singapore. The education system might also give many students stress due to the amount of homework, tests and examinations we all have, which leads to students being unhappy. I think many people wish that their job would be less tiresome so that they can relax more. However, people should learn to look at things at another point of view. If things were not this way, Singapore would not prosper and might still remain or go back down to a second or third world country.

CID 2 Extraordinary

This picture may seem like an ordinary garden to some. To others, this does not even look like a garden. However, to me and my friends, this picture is extraordinary. This remarkable picture showcases the hard work and sweat of me and my friends. Even though we were all amateurs to gardening, we still put ourselves ahead of the tough times and did a decent job in creating out plots. We were all in the end very satisfied with our end product and I personally was very proud of ourselves for our accomplishment. We all did not complain even though we had a busy schedule and had to put it aside in order to do gardening. I really enjoy this sort of VIA activities as they not only help the school and the society, but also allows us to work together and finish this garden. Through this activity, me and my friends all understood the hardships of gardeners and farmers. I had many fond and happy memories while doing this activity and hope that we could do something similar to help others in the upcoming years.
